Tom Hanks - A Journey From Oakland To Oscars



Tom Hanks, short for Thomas Jeffery Hanks, is an American actor, director, writer and producer who started his acting career in the year 1979 and has been active since then in Hollywood. The 57 year old actor was born to Amos and Janet in Concord, California. In his acting career, Tom has achieved remarkable heights and is still going strong.  

His early life is marked by him being a silent and often confused child, until he discovered his love for acting. When Hanks’ father’s second marriage failed, he moved with his kids to Oakland, CA for raising his family. As a result, Hanks childhood was spent in sadness and solitude.

About his career in the film industry, everything that could be said would always be less. Tom Hanks has a very golden career behind him. With hits like, “Captain Phillips”, “Forrest Gump”, “Cast Away”, “Cloud Atlas” and many more, Tom has made a golden period of his acting career. The famous actor has a long list of awards to his name, including several Golden Globe Awards, Primetime Emmy Awards, PGA vision television awards, Blockbuster entertainment awards and to top it all, two Oscars for Best Actor in a leading role in “Philadelphia” (1994) and for Best actor in a leading role in “Forrest Gump” (1995). The list of nominations for Oscars and other Global awards is endless in the name of Tom Hanks. 

As a director, Tom Hanks created two films, namely, “That thing you do! (1996)” and “Larry Crowne (2011)”. Hanks was also the writer of these two films. However, producer Tom Hanks has produced almost 15 films, including major hits like “Cast Away” and “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”. Hanks has performed in various roles and genres, the main highlights being Captain Phillips and Forrest Gump.


Apart from his filming career, Tom has been active in various other fields as well, one of them being a supporter of NASA’s space program and also serving as a member of the National Space Society. Hanks was also inducted as an honorary member of the United States Army Rangers Hall of fame.
Recently, Tom Hanks is in the news for his probable tour to Australia for attending the premiere of Stanley Joseph’s new release “My Cornerstone”, which is based on the social prejudices in the Australian culture. The film is anticipated to be a huge hit at the Australian box office.
