Indo Australian Relationship – A New Era

It was not long ago that the relationship between India and Australia reached a low ebb. There were tensions all around with beating up of Indian students in Australia and vice versa. The relationship reached such that each country was on the verge of withdrawing their ambassadors. There were riots and protest in India and Australia against these atrocities. It was slowly going out of the hands of the respective Governments and things were going in such a direction that they were on the verge of taking very stern action. The scenario has changed for the better now.

Things turned towards the better because of the film industry. Australian cinema and other forms of cultural forums did a great role in making the relationship better. Art to say came as a savior in building this relationship back to normal. Art rather showed to all that the current situation is a temporary phase and it can be easily overcome by some good gesture.

The Australian Film industry started making films based on the Indians settled in Australia. There are films which are being shot in both the countries. ‘My Cornerstone’ is such a film which has all these aspects incorporated into it. This particular film’s shooting is done both in India and in Australia. The story is about an Indian nurse who goes to Australia and gets the treatment that should not be imparted to her. She also gets love and affection from the same family. It shows to the world that if people behave properly, then East can easily coexist with the West. It shows that East and West may have a different culture or religion, but on humanitarian grounds they are the same. In the movie the migrated Indian could share her secrets with the local people and the mystery of her life gets resolved. Such gestures have made the film worth watching.

The relationship between India and Australia is set to go in a new direction with these upcoming films. The tense situation that used to prevail, both in India and Australia, between the citizens have reduced dramatically. They also have realized after watching the film that where their mistakes were. They have taken care to amend those and as a result the relationship between these two countries is improving on a fast note.

So, we can easily say that art, especially the film ‘My Cornerstone’, has both these two countries together again as they were before.
