Steven Spielberg - The Man Who Defined The Art Of ‘Direction’

One of the world’s most acclaimed and wealthiest film maker, producer, director, and screen writer, Steven Spielberg is an American celebrity born in 1946, Ohio, United States. Known for his excellent direction and a 4 decade long career in film making, Spielberg is undoubtedly a doer. Often referred to as one of the most influential personality in the Hollywood, Spielberg went to California State University Long Beach for his higher education, but dropped out to pursue his entertainment dream.

The man behind super hits like, “Men in Black”, “Jurassic Park”, and “Lincoln” gave the world a new vision towards cinema. Spielberg started his career by serving as an assistant editor for the film “Wagon Train (1957)”. However, he didn’t get much of a credit for the same. As a director, Spielberg’s first direction was “Battle Squad” in the year 1961 which was based on the World War II. After that, Spielberg was more involved in creating short films such as “The Last Gun”. Spielberg’s career was at considerably slower pace, but he somehow managed to keep it going. He successfully established a production house called “Amblin’”, which was also the name of one of his movies.

Spielberg’s first major hit was “The Sugarland express (1974)” that was finally a message to the industry that he is a rising star. In the year 1975, his next effort was even a major hit and gave him substantial fame internationally; the movie was called “Jaws”. Then there was nothing that could stop Spielberg and he gave several other blockbusters like, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)”, “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and many more. Spielberg also created some comedy and romantic films, though most of them went unnoticed at the box office.

The director cum producer has a huge list of awards to his name and an endless list of nominations. He won awards like Golden Globe, Academy Award, Directors Guild of America, etc. His first award that he won was in the year 1973 for “The Sugarland Express”. Spielberg earned awards and nominations in all the categories including, best direction, best screenplay, best writing, best drama, best foreign language film, and best picture.

Believing that modern directors do not exactly know how to depict a story anymore, Spielberg clearly has a way in film direction and says that is all he ever wanted to do. Undoubtedly, Steven Spielberg is a legend of all times and his work will be applauded over centuries.
