Hollywood – The Name Says It All



A district in Los Angeles, California is named as Hollywood which turned into a municipality and later on developing into a whole city. Hollywood is the film industry in America, which has been producing films and other entertainment from over a century now. There are numerous studios that have been existent in the Hollywood for a long time and are usually referred to as historic. 

In 1910, the Hollywood district merged with the city of Los Angeles and soon a subsequent film industry began to emerge. With a population of approximately 80,000 people (according to the 2000 U.S census), Hollywood remains a great attraction for tourists and the entertainment media from all over the globe. 

One of the most dominant film cities in the world, Hollywood is the hub of entertainment and one main source of income for the Government. By the end of the year 1912, many production houses and studios were setup in or near the Hollywood. Four major companies that had their studios in Los Angeles were – Paramount, Warner Bros., RKO and Columbia.

Director D. W. Griffith was the first to make a motion picture in Hollywood, a 17 minute short film, made for The Biograph Company. After this, there was no looking back and the Hollywood saw only upstream. In a period of more than a century, millions of films were produced and launched on the box office. Stars and celebrities from all over the world were seen to be interested in the limelight of Hollywood. Those who could entertain the audiences experienced a career full of success and Hollywood was responsible for improving the financial positions of millions.

Later, many acting schools were established in the Hollywood city that trained its students all the aspects of film making, from direction, production, camera handling, and acting to other petty aspects of the film industry, the acting schools taught everything to the future generations. 

To applaud the talents and excellent work of the stars in the industry, Hollywood holds various award functions and events for the same. These include Golden Globe Awards, Grammy awards, American academy awards, and several others. The most prestigious award for entertainment all over the world is considered to be the “Oscars”. With a very learned team of jury and critics panel, it takes an exceptionally good performance as a star to achieve an Oscar. 

Hollywood has been entertaining for a long period now and has given endless opportunities to the rising stars. This is why it is the world’s most dominant film city.
