As the much awaited Indian-Australian film “My
cornerstone" is about to be released at the Australian box office in the
first week of April, 2014, stars from Hollywood are expected to appear at the
premiere of the film. It is reported that big
Hollywood names like Tom Hanks and Angelina Jolie may make a trip to Australia
for the premiere of this film.
The film is written, directed and
produced by Stanley Joseph, an Indian born Sydney-based artist. However, not
much can be talked about Stanley as he has just begun his film making career. “Newton’s
third law” was the first movie directed by Stanley and “My cornerstone”
is expected to be a blockbuster by the director. A lot has already been said
about the movie that is based on the social prejudices and discrimination still
prevalent amongst the two nations, Australia and India.
Being a new comer in the film
making industry, nothing has stopped Stanley from making his career kick start as
a record breaker. The director created two movies, “My cornerstone” and “Love
you Krishna”, simultaneously within a short period of 37 days, breaking the
record of Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the rings”. This could be one of the reasons
as to why celebrities from across the world are interested in this standout
film.
The film is based on a sensitive
issue where the pawns of racism felt by the Indians in Australia are being
highlighted. The story is about an Indian nurse (Zenia Starr) who moves to
Australia and is placed in the household of Pintos, an Indian/Australian
family, to take care of an elderly lady. There she realizes that the racism is
still very active in the minds of Australians and she is still labeled as the
one from a different country or anything but a human being. How she deals with
all of it, forms the rest of the story.
Stanley has tried to lay emphasis
on the root cause of the problem and confronted that even though the ill
practices are now happening at a very low scale, but the mankind is not
completely free from them yet. There are very few filmmakers who opt to take
such a brave and a sensitive plot and not focus on what just sells anyway in
the market.
The movie is said to be good enough
to break box office records and set new genre of film making across the globe.
