Mahmood Khan, a renowned Pakistani
singer, songwriter, film maker, and music producer, is known for his
distinguished success in the Australian music industry. Being the first artist
from Pakistan to achieve such an honor, Khan is widely accepted as an
international musician. Born in Lahore, Pakistan, Khan moved to Los Angeles,
USA and got an employment as an engineer at Jam Power (a music production
house) in the 1980’s.
Though he was promoted after 12
years, Khan released his first solo album called, “Fairytale” in the year 1995.
However, it was not a great success commercially; it did attract the attention
of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, another legendary Pakistani singer and music
composer. He approached Mahmood Khan in the year 1997 for a music album
together, to which Khan agreed. However, soon after that, Nusrat Ali Khan
passed away, leaving Mahmood the sole artist for their album, “Only One”.
His success story in Australia
began when he settled in Sydney to study at the Sydney Film School and
graduated from there in the year 2009. After that, Khan recorded a live concert
album at Sydney which became the official music video of the song, “Like the
River”, being the only Pakistani to have done that. This song topped the
Australian music charts.
Apart from the music he produced in
Australia, Khan was also involved in other activities as well. He extended his
heart felt pain to those who suffered in the 9/11 attacks, he recorded a music
single called, “Enuff Misfortune”. Also, Khan was active in various charity
efforts, including fundraising for the Red Cross Society.
Khan, along with 40 other music
artists, recorded a song, “We Could Be Paradise”, which related to his charity
programs. Khan solely produced the video clip for this song. Being so
involved in the Australian culture and his impeccable career, The Australian
Government officially titled him as a “Distinguished Talent” in the year 2011.
Currently, Mahmood Khan is
based in Los Angeles, USA and is engaged in the production of a feature film,
named “Labrador”, of which he is also the director, music director, and writer.
As reported, Flip Kobler will be undertaking the task of developing the
screenplay for the film.
The only man from Pakistan who made it this big internationally, or in
Australia to be specific, Mahmood Khan is recognized as a legendary artist and
has set an example for the future generations to look up to.
