The 10th degree black belt
holder in Chun Kuk Do style of martial arts, Chuck Norris was a shy and
reserved child. The macho star of the Cannon Group was nonathletic, downbeat in
his childhood, a fact very hard to believe. He is the eldest child of Wilma and
Ray Norris, and was born in Ryan, Oklahoma on March 10, 1940.
After the divorce of his parents 16
years later, Chris Norris moved to California and went on to join the United
States Air Force as an Air Policeman at the age of 18 in the year 1958. His
first posting at Osan Air Base in South Korea was the turning point in his
career as it was in South Korea that he was introduced to Tang Soo Do, a
martial arts style. Here he also got his nickname Chuck and later he was better
known as Chuck Norris instead of Carlos Ray Norris.
After a stable career with the United
States Air Force till 1962, Chuck Norris joined the Northrop Corporation and
started a chain of karate schools. Chuck Norris had to accept defeats at the
initial 2 tournaments of the International karate Championships. However, from
1967 onwards, he worked hard on improving his karate skills to the extent that
he emerged a winner against the then karate champions like Skipper Mullins,
Victor Moore and the likes. Chuck Norris won and held the Professional Middleweight
karate champion title for 6 years and also set a record in 1990 by becoming the
first Westerner to be awarded the rank of 8th Degree Black Belt
Grand Master.
The philanthropic side of this sturdy
actor is very noticeable by his grand contributions to various organizations
working for the less privileged sections of the society namely; Make A Wish
Foundation, United Way. He has also established The United Fighting Arts
federation and kick start, organizations which help children with low self esteem
and help children under pressure to keep away from drugs by teaching them
martial arts.
Chuck
Norris achieved stardom in the
entertainment industry when he got the opportunity to work alongside the
whirlwind warrior Bruce Lee in Way of the Dragon in 1972. His acting career included many well known
films like The Octagon, An Eye for an Eye, Firewalker and popular TV series
like Walker and Texas Ranger.
Chun Kuk Do is the martial art form
created by Chuck Norris which is a combination of various combat styles and
Tang Soo Do. He is a proud brown belt holder in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The
honorary title of Texas Ranger was conferred on him and his brother Aaron by
the Texas Governor Rick Perry.
