Life History Of J. R. R. Tolkien

J.R.R Tolkien was born on 1982, in Bloemfontein, South Africa. Tolkien was an English writer, poet, professor and philologist. Tolkien is renowned as the author of amazing works ‘The hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the rings’.  His works have had a devoted international fan base, and later his works were adapted into award winning films. Tolkien died in the year 1973.  

Career as a Writer and Scholar

Tolkien worked as professor and reader in English language at the University of Leeds for five years from 1920 up to 1925, as an Anglo Saxon language professor at the University of Oxford from the 1925 to 1945, and of literature and English since 1945, till his retirement in 1959. Tolkien started writing while he was working as a professor.  

Tolkien has written many fantastic novels.  The hobbit is the award winning fantasy book written by him.  This book is about the adventures of small footed Bilbo Baggins.  This book was released in the year 1937.  It was regarded as a Children’s book; he had also created more than a hundred drawings to support the narrative. After some years, when Tolkien was working on scholarly publications, he developed a book called as ‘the Lord of the rings’ series.  This is regarded as his masterpiece.  Tolkien was very much inspired by ancient European myths, and in his work he has written about the European myths, lore and languages.  

In the year 1954, Tolkien released the part one of the series called as ‘The fellowship of the Ring’; in 1955 next part was released that is ‘The return of the King’.  Tolkien’s books gave readers a rich literature and his books also included images of fantastic creatures, trees, goblins, and also amazing characters like dwarf gimili and wizard Gandalf. This book, written by Tolkien had become very popular in those days. 

Tolkien retired from his professional work in the year 1959 and later on he published poetry and an essay collection called as the ‘Tree and leaf’. He also published a fantasy tale ‘Smith of Wootton Major’.  Tolkien from his amazing work has created history in the English literature.  Tolkien’s son Christopher published some of his work such as The Children of Hurin and The Silmarillion.

Legacy 

Tolkien’s works are recognized as the popular books in the world.  Millions of copies of the above mentioned books have been sold.  These stories were also used in the films, and the films had a sensational hit.
