The Films That Made Their Makers Rich



When we talk about the highest grossing films, we mean that how much a movie was able to generate at the box office, in monetary terms. The films that earn the most are categorized as the highest grossing films. It is, however, interesting to note that most of the big banner films that are launched at the box office are generating a lot of revenue. Yet, there are some stand outs which perform out of the league and break records. This article will talk about the highest grossing films in Hollywood.

Starting with the movie that released in 2009 and generated worldwide gross revenue of $2,782,275,172, “Avatar” is ranked number 1 on the list of highest earning films. The film was an epic science fiction directed and co-produced by James Cameron.

The second on the list is a little bit of a shocker. “Titanic”, the epic love story starring Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet, released in the year 1997 is still the second film in Hollywood that earned the most with gross revenue of $2,186,772,302. 

The third one with gross revenue of $1,518,594,910, “The Avengers” is third on the charts. The film released in the year 2012, and is based on the comic series ‘Marvel’. Directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, this American superhero film starred Robert Downey, also the lead actor in Iron Man.

The next in the list is “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows – Part 2” which released in the year 2011 and became another huge hit of the Harry Potter series, earning the makers gross revenue of $1,341,511,219. 

The fifth in the list is another loved movie of the Hollywood, the series of Iron Man. The third sequel of Iron Man, named, “Iron Man – 3” is at the fifth number on the list of films that earned the most in Hollywood. With a gross turnover of $1,215,439,994, the film ranks fifth amongst the most highly paid films.

Others who achieved the highest grossing mark after these five are “Transformers: Dark of the Moon ($1,123,794,079), The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ($1,119,929,521), Skyfall ($1,108,561,013), The Dark Knight Rises ($1,084,439,099), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ($1,066,179,725).

With so many movie lovers, the film industry is at the peak of all times. Gone are the days when people did so less for themselves, now everybody is concerned about a good life of which entertainment and films are a huge part.
